For First time Trekkers – instruction:

Important: please don’t forget to pack your belonging (mainly the warm clothes) in a plastic cover and then put it into your bag, with personal experience I can say this is very important
when it rains....Also better not to carry mobile or any electronic items (except camera, even camera should be well taken care as water can go inside any electronic items, I lost one camera because of rain water only L)..And PLEASE DONT WEAR JEANS,

Samarthanam - NGO for Blind People

SAMARTHANAM – NGO for Blind and Disabled People Date: 12/7/2008

As a small child I often would say “ I want to become a doctor and serve the poor in some remote village………I still remember in my school days we were supposed to write in a book one good deed that we do for the day. And my dream was to write about me helping a blind man to cross the road and would always look out for one whenever I would go out. But never got a chance to do so. As I grew and joined engineering invariably my New Year resolution would be not to use plastic cover, and not to throw rappers or covers on road and I would either find a trash bin or get it home to dispose.
Last Saturday, when I was discussing with my brother about various issues regarding the disposal system of the city he told me about “SAMARTHANAM”. That triggered my desire of childhood days of helping blind serving country, the poor and my views of keeping city clean and I could do all of these through Samarthanam.

I visited Samarthanam with my brother last Saturday and the visit just made my day. There are so many ways to serve country, the poor and the needy it’s just that one has to make up their mind.

PIC 1: The waste plastics which we took to the Samarthanam

I would brief you all what I saw and learnt about Samarthanam and believe me if you want to help poor, disabled and the needy and also interested in disposing the wastes like plastic, e-wastes, newspaper and metals u now know where to go.

SAMARTHANAM is an NGO for disabled. This organization was established in the year 1997 bringing in together the three visually impaired graduates Mr. Mahantesh, Paul Muddha and Nagesh. Samarthanam is an NGO which started with the primary goal as to provide the visually impaired shelter and education with 3 disabled children.

When we (I and my brother) went to the office we were greeted by Mr. Prashanth who gave us an overall picture about the organization Samarthanam, its aims and activities and fund rising issues. The office since was a part of the woman’s hostel we could see many visually impaired girls walking around doing things on their own.
PIC 2: Prashanth, My Sister (Sindhu) and a visually impaired guy working in this org.

Ms Sunitha who is also working for the organization also gave us detailed working methods of the organization and its activities. Though the organization started with the intension of helping the physically challenged group it gradually extended to also help the children from economically weaker sections of the society.

PIC 3: visually impaired guy working in Samarthanam and Ms Sunitha.

They have three programmes which forms the present activities of the organization.

1) SWADHAR -Integrated Education for the Disabled(IED)Ms Nirmala Dixit who is working with Samarthanam in the IED project gave us an insight of the project.
* IED is a central government aided project which aims at educating disabled students in regular schools. Samarthanam has identified 303 such children in and around Bangalore. It has 21 teachers who along with B.E.D have a special training i.e Multi categorical teachers training done to help the disabled. The
salary to these teachers is given by government through Samarthanam trust.
* They also have distribution programme where they provide all the necessary equipments like hearing aids, spectacles and so on.
* They also provide all the children with free hostel facilities. They house about 200 children mainly disabled and children coming from EWS.

* They have IT cell to educate its visually challenged students, the use of computers with the help of software JAWS(Job Access With Speech).

PIC 4: IT CELL

PIC 5: Computer Systems

* They also have a placement cell for these disabled students to find placements in various companies.

PIC 6: Blind Teacher for Blind Students.

* They have doctors coming from Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for the medical regular checkups.

SPORTS & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

* They students of Samarthanam are encouraged to participate in many sports like chess, cricket and surprisingly the visually impared students have their own cricket team.
* They have a separate cultural wing. They have emerged as artists, accomplished singers, dancers, instrumentalists and mimics etc…

2) Vidya Prasad – Mid – day meal Programme:

Samarthanam has been providing free mid-day meals to children studying in Government schools under the Akshara Dasoha project since 2003.
This program covers 35,000 children in 200 schools. To expand and strengthen this service, the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India has granted 35AC. All donations towards this programme are 100% tax exempted.

3) Parisara – Recycling the Wastes:
With the good intensive for the disposal of wastes like plastics, metals, news papers and e-wastes, Samarthanam has a project called Parisara. Here they collect above mentioned wastes from MNC companies, individuals and partly will be used for Brailing and the rest is to generate fund by sending them to respective suitable recycling companies like ITC etc…

Friends my intension of posting this is can we also help these visually impaired friends? We can do it in many ways so that they can find their future through Samarthanam. A few are mentioned below:

Rs 600 per month or Rs 6000 per annum towards one Child Sponsorship Programme to be used for lodging, boarding, and other educational expenses of the child.
Monthly or Yearly fixed contributions may be made in Rs 100 / Rs 1000 or multiples there of to meet their general expenses.
A day’s food could be sponsored.

Dear Friends,

I would like to take this opportunity to inform our readers about : What is the meaning of 786?We have often heard and seen that ‘ 786 ’ is used by muslims all over the world. It is taken to be a lucky mascot.
Some associate it with the movie ‘coolie’, where amitabh bachchan wore a 786 badge.

But there are rarely few who know what 786 really means.

The roots of this number lie in the ancient Indian heritage. In India, there has been a mathematician named, Aryabhatta.
Aryabhatta, was not only a mathematician but also a numerologist. He concluded that every alphabet, whether a vowel or a consonant, has a phonetic value which can be expressed in numerical terms.
He, therefore, calculated the numerical values of the alphabets in Sanaskrit, Persian and Hindi.

Substitue the values assigned by him in ‘Bismillahir Rahman urRahim’ and what do you get obviously ,786. This is the Numerological reason behind the lucky number 786. So every time one writes 786, one means ‘Bismillah….’ Which means “I begin my work in the name of god. May god help me.”

It might be surprising to you that NUMEROLOGY IS AN ANCIENT INDIAN SCIENCE which originated around 4000years back in India.

So now tell me why do all saints add 108 as a prefix in their name ?
Why do we have 108 beads in a maala ?

Hope this is informative for all of us.
WHY WE NEED A HINDU INDIA?

Our powerful nation is a legacy of a long lost Empire and I say long lost because our ancient empire was a VEDIC one (HINDU) and stretched from present day west Afghanistan to South-east Asia. It was a proud one, one of intellectual people, a rich & a vibrant culture, prosperous civilization. But sadly what we see today is a fast shrinking culture that now retains only about 50% of the total area of the Vedic civilization notwithstanding the people of other cultures that are polluting our own. India as a region has only been identified as a country of people who are possibly the first to have a literature as great as the Vedas, Purana, Upanishad, great epics like Mahabharat, Ramayana not to forget many small literary writings that are a wealth of knowledge that covered all topics ever to encountered by humans from the food to be eaten for a healthy living to the optimum shape of a flying machine (vimaan)! Such was the grandeur of the people that they built the finest cities in Taxila, Mohen jo daro, Harappa, Vaishali, Kashi, etc. Ayurved, Yoga are popular means of a healthy living nowadays that even the west strictly follows and scientists have recognized, the scientific discoveries like the Pythagoras theorem, the planets and even the atom were already among discussion among the Vedic scholars. And, where are we now? The present status of the country suggests a different picture altogether.

THE PRESENT PLIGHT:

At present our country is a potpourri of different race, culture and religions. All these foreigners are the cause for our sad situation now. The way we keep giving reservations to the so-called minority community poses a great danger to the indigenous community of the country. We keep appeasing the other community and that has been a way of getting votes during elections. These people from the muslim, christian communities keep converting Hindus by literally bribing them with sacks of rice if they convert to their religion. In fact when the Kashmiri Hindu pandits were driven from their own homeland there wasn’t any hue and cry over the issue and no steps were taken for the same the way it goes for when the riots happened in Gujarat. Agreed, no form of killing of any people is relevant but justice is to be just and equal in all measures. As stated by the articles of S.Gurumurthy that when the head of a militant organization operating from a madarasa in U.P was about to be arrested by a police troop they were pelted with stones in retaliation after which the arrests were stalled! Why, because that would hurt the minority community!! What is more intriguing is that the state government later apologized for the incident.
Had the treatment been equal when the head of the Sankara mutt, shri Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati was arrested for reasons that are yet to be confirmed by the courts the issue wouldn’t be in this article. But surprisingly there wasn’t any protests by the media, which otherwise would have blamed the government for hurting religious sentiments. In fact of all rubbish news came up in the media about the case and the shocking fact was that the arrests were made on Diwali, 2004. Can you imagine an Islamic leader arrested on Id? The world will turn topsy-turvy by the events that would follow. Even if the person has committed a crime really then there is a code that governments follow in the case of a religious leader. All this for the state government to create a secular image and capture the vote banks of a population that is predominantly anti-Brahman. But the present government has a secular policy that invariably means appeasing the minority at the cost of the majority (HINDUS). That is, you insult the Hindus by, asking for a muslim leader in Bihar even if it has no relevance to the governance of any state, by increasing the reservation to the muslims at Aligarh Muslim University, by crying for muslim reservation in the job sector i.e., both private and public (as proposed by the Andhra pradesh government), by modifying facts of atrocities committed by the muslim conquerors on Hindus in the history textbooks for children, so as not to hurt the minorities.
All the above facts are provoking and the Hindus are silent and patient only because their traditions teaches them so. The facts of the demolition of a thousand temples by the muslim invaders is all hushed up by the government but the babri masjid demolition is raked up again and again and is not allowed to be forgotten by the people themselves. And what do we get in return by these pets of the secular government? Lakhs of policemen are deployed by the governments on Hindu festivals in preparation for any eventuality to be committed by again the minority community! The Kashmir for which we spend millions of dollars both in civilian and military involvements only produces militants and separatists (the government respects these people!!)I believe I need not explain the above picture I received in a mail last week. When the country was partitioned in 1947 (which again was for the betterment & appeasement of the minority!) it was on the pretext of a muslim Pakistan and a Hindu India. The former is a reality while the latter is seen as a nightmare by the secularists (funny, considering a muslim Pakistan was a dream land for the minority). Now, consider the aftereffects of the creation of a Hindu state in India (viz., not far away, god willingly). The nation will treat its Hindus with due respect considering they are getting treated like second-class citizens now. The present reservation policy will be done away with a one that considers only the economic status of the person. It is a paradox that in a secular state that you need reservations based on caste when people of all caste, religion & creed are to be treated equally! The ancient scriptures will be treated with more respect and will spread at grass root level. Besides when a country with a majority population of muslims is free to be declared an Islamic country, why can’t we with 85% Hindu population be called a Hindu nation? It won’t hurt anybody (minority community) and is only a matter of recognition to the people and the culture that have shaped the land for centuries and a step towards the revival of the proud Empire that once was.

Let the message spread! P.S: The above articles only reflect the author’s (Vivek) ideas and not that of any political party or organizations. Any comments are welcome to the following id:Vivek1086@rediffmail.comVivek201086@yahoo.com

WHY WE STILL NEED A HINDU INDIA?!

There are people in the society, the pseudo-secularists argue that the hindutva forces are on the same platform as that of the Islamic terrorists!!. Well, to start with one has to really differentiate between a terrorist organization and one that has a cause like the VHP, Shiv sena. Let me tell you one thing Islamic organizations like jaish-e-mohammed, lashkar-e-toiba have an ideal, a cause but one, that it believes can be achieved only by terrorizing it’s enemies, by spreading violence, by infiltrating territories belonging to other countries. These are the organizations that ought to be banned, not the VHP or the Shiv sena! The hindutva organizations have a motive for which they educate people of their own community, not go on a killing spree of other community people! When terrorists attacked the akshardham temple in Ahmedabad, when about 50 people of the shiv sena were burnt alive at godhra, when the ram mandir at ayodhya was attacked and the idol almost destroyed and, when thousands of Kashmiri pandits were made refugees in their own homeland, there wasn’t a single Islamic organization (not the terrorists, but the Islamic welfare organizations) that opposed or condemned or even felt sorry for the acts committed by these so-called jihadis who only spoil the name of islam. The fact of matter is that when a muslim terrorist is shot down at Ahmedabad, the Islamic organizations cry fowl at the government blaming them of igniting communal violence and even proclaim the dead terrorist as a martyr!!
The truth is that the country is nurturing serpents that will one day cause the partition of that nation again on the basis of security of islam. We give them reservation, care for their sentiments, give at most security to their places of worship (for reasons unknown!, fearing threat from the Hindus?), spend huge amounts of money for the development of Kashmir and what do they give us in return? They fuel hatred towards the Hindus, kill them at will, insult them, and what more, wherever their population is the majority they demand independence (Kashmir)!! The reality we face today is that when a Hindu dies, nobody cares but when a muslim dies, charges are made against Hindu organizations, secularism is suddenly at threat, and, the communal violence that follows is blamed on the Hindus!! So, it is time we realize our own value as Hindus, of being the majority, and more importantly as being the indigenous people of this country.
Today when we worry about the decline in the Hindu population, the CPM calls it baseless. Well, it should be noted that there are the pseudo-secularists who blame the RSS of being intolerant, of being over reactive and of nurturing dangerous communal enmity. Let me make one thing clear, centuries ago it was the muslim fanatics who drove out the Zoroastrians, Shia muslims, and then the Jews were driven out by the Christian fanatics! And where did they all come? Well, the so-called intolerant Hindu community provided them with a home! We got a fantastic gift for that. Pakistan is lost, Bangladesh is gone, and, Kashmir is hanging at knife’s edge! Even today, the Christians in Mizoram have replaced the original tribes and the regions of Assam and west Bengal are flooded with Bangladeshi refugees (muslims) and have even overthrown the Hindu majority!! We do not want a Pakistan-II. But the time has come that we come to terms with the fact and the fact is that we are providing too much room to the minorities to play their cards wild! Something has to be done or else our grand children will call Assam and other northeastern states as foreign countries!

RESERVATION: HOW CONSTITUTIONAL IS IT ?

RESERVATION: HOW CONSTITUTIONAL IS IT?
Young citizens of India are very much aware of the provision made by the Government of India called Reservation! A boon to some while a curse to others, it is one of the ace cards of caste politics used often by politicians to gain political vendetta. Nowadays days we have reservation in every sphere. How beneficial is it to the nation in the long run, does it achieve its cause, what harm does it do, and, above all is it constitutional? I shall give my ideas in the following paragraphs.
When a reservation is provided to a particular community either for education or jobs it is done so as to relieve the community of social burdens and to earn a respectable place in the social hierarchy. We have 15 percent reservation for scheduled castes in the public job sector. Long ago when the nation was newborn the majority of the population, that of backward castes was poor and oppressed. The leaders therefore decided to grant them reservation in education. This provided the oppressed with a neat platform to come up in life. Later, the same community began enjoying reservation in the job sector too! So the people got good education as well as great secured jobs, all provided by the government.

All this sounds good for the tribal, scheduled castes etc,. Later vote bank politics came into play and the politicians began granting reservations to the Muslims, Christians etc,. The surprising fact was that the Muslims and the Christians came to be listed under the backward caste category!! These religions are not supposed to have any caste of their own and they even proclaim this very proudly! But when it comes to getting easy jobs and education they are no
backwards. Today, only about less than 30% of the seats in a government education institution is via open competition (except the IITs). Now what all this reservation does is it makes the job all the more easier for the already well to do Muslim or a scheduled caste family. These people study pathetically, get about some 60% and get a seat in some top ranked institution! Later they also get a govt. job with ease. Good for one generation, but the thing becomes more annoying when the son of the above person is provided with the same provision.
The question is, does reservations really help the oppressed or is it a case of nurturing a single community even if it is not worth all the facilities! What about the people who burn the midnight oil and score great marks but only get into some average institution, just because they are from the forward community? We thereby lose precious talents for our industries and our workforce consists of people who simply do not deserve their jobs. There is a proposal to give 5% reservation to Muslims in the public sector. On an election promise made by the Andhra CM YSR Reddy an attempt was made to provide 15%reservation to Muslims. But thanks to the judicial system the High court put down the move saying it was unconstitutional!
Ours is a socialist, democratic, SECULAR, sovereign republic. Secular means that the state does not have any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, race or religion! But what happens here is a total paradox! The state gives reservations on the excuse of safeguarding secular interests!!! At what cost, I ask, at the cost of quality manpower? The reasons the IITs are a success story is because they have no reservations (there is a proposal to introduce one)! The talent coming out there is pure and based on hard work. The private sector has no reservation and companies insist on quality manpower because these are the people who will help achieve success for a company internationally. When, the company is forced to take a candidate even if it does not feel he/she is capable, the standard of the company falls.

More so it is a question of challenging the rights of a private establishment to choose its own workforce!! It is important for the govt. to give reservations on the basis of economic status and not based on castes. The socially backward may not be economically backward and the socially rich need not be financially well off!
